Pacific Palisades Wildfire Triggers Emergency Evacuations
California officials have mandated evacuations and declared a state of emergency as the rapidly expanding Palisades Fire wreaks havoc in Pacific Palisades. The wildfire, which ignited on January 7, 2025, near Palisades Drive, has already burned over 1,262 acres with zero containment, according to CAL FIRE.
A Community Under Threat
Fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds reaching up to 60 mph, the fire’s erratic behavior poses a grave risk to nearby communities. Spot fires carried by wind intensify the challenges for firefighters battling to control the blaze.
Governor Gavin Newsom issued a state of emergency, urging residents to remain vigilant and adhere to evacuation orders. Mandatory evacuations have been announced for 15 zones, including TOP-U001 to TOP-U009, while warnings are in place for 19 additional areas.
Evacuation Centers and Road Closures
Displaced residents can find temporary relief at the Westwood Recreation Center, located at 1350 South Sepulveda Boulevard. Meanwhile, major roads like the Pacific Coast Highway are closed, and drivers are advised to monitor updates from CHP-West Valley.
Firefighting Efforts
CAL FIRE, along with Los Angeles County and City Fire Departments, is utilizing ground and aerial resources to mitigate the fire’s spread. Local residents, including actor Steve Guttenberg, are aiding evacuation efforts by clearing blocked roads to allow emergency vehicles access.

Guttenberg emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging residents to prioritize safety over property. “Don’t worry about your personal belongings—just get your loved ones and get out,” he implored, underscoring the need for community solidarity.
Authorities continue to monitor the fire and provide updates as firefighters work tirelessly to safeguard lives and property. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and comply with evacuation directives.
