Two Families, One Week: Unraveling Twin Tragedies Across Continents
In a span of days, two eerily similar family tragedies shook Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, leaving a trail of unanswered questions and sorrow.
On May 24, 2025, authorities in Albuquerque responded to a house fire on Georgia Street, discovering three gunshot victims inside: Stephen and Marcia Bockemeier, both in their 70s, and their 48-year-old son, Erik. Hours later, their other son, 35-year-old Andrew Bockemeier, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound outside the State Bar of New Mexico. Investigators linked the firearm to all four deaths and suspect Andrew committed the murders before dying by suicide. A note was recovered, but its contents remain undisclosed.
Just days earlier, in Buenos Aires, 50-year-old Laura Leguizamón allegedly fatally stabbed her husband Bernardo Seltzer and their two sons before taking her own life. No signs of forced entry were found, and a rambling letter was discovered. Laura had been under psychiatric care, and changes in her behavior were noted by their housekeeper.
Both tragedies emphasize unseen mental health battles within families. As investigations continue, communities mourn lives lost and search for meaning behind the heartbreaking events.
