Liverpool Parade Turns Tragic: 47 Injured After Car Rams Into Crowd

A celebratory parade for Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory turned tragic after a car plowed into a crowd on Water Street, injuring 47 people, including four children. Police confirmed that the driver, a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area, was arrested at the scene.

Eyewitness footage captured the harrowing moment as the vehicle accelerated into the crowd. Merseyside Police described the incident as “horrific,” with Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims urging the public not to speculate or share graphic footage.

“This is not being treated as a terror-related incident,” police stated.

Emergency services responded swiftly. Dave Kitchin from North West Ambulance Service reported 20 people treated at the scene and 27 hospitalized, including two with serious injuries—one of them a child.

Four people were rescued from beneath the vehicle, according to Fire Chief Nick Searle.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer called the event “appalling,” thanking first responders and asking the public to allow police space to investigate. Liverpool FC expressed deep concern, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected.”
