How Americans Really View Melania Trump as First Lady
Melania Trump’s tenure as First Lady has unfolded quietly, mirroring the highs and lows of her husband Donald Trump’s political journey. Since returning to the White House last year, Melania has kept a low public profile, splitting her time between Washington, Palm Beach, and New York. While she continues her Be Best initiative, much of her second term has focused on a high-profile documentary project that debuted in January, a film she has publicly described as a personal success.
A new poll from YouGov sheds light on how Americans rate her performance compared to other First Ladies. Conducted among more than 2,200 adults in early February 2026, the survey shows Melania with a net approval rating of -16. That places her below Jill Biden at -9, but slightly above Hillary Clinton, who scored -17.
In contrast, historical figures rank far higher. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis leads decisively with a +56 rating, while Nancy Reagan, Rosalynn Carter, and Michelle Obama all post strong positive numbers. Notably, Melania’s support remains significantly stronger among Republican voters, highlighting the deeply partisan lens through which her time as First Lady is viewed.
