Arizona Family Among 6 Killed in Tragic San Diego Plane Crash

A devastating plane crash on June 8, 2025, claimed six lives when a Cessna 414 plunged into the Pacific Ocean near Point Loma, San Diego. Among the victims were Arizona couple Landon and Torrie Baldwin, both in their 20s, leaving behind two young children.

The aircraft had just taken off, heading back to Phoenix, when pilot Landon Baldwin reported serious altitude issues. After multiple “Mayday” calls and an attempt to land at a nearby naval base, the plane lost contact and crashed nose-first into the water. According to witnesses, the descent was rapid and uncontrolled.

“He was trying to save everyone on board,” said a family friend. “Landon loved flying — and his family even more.”

Aviation investigators believe spatial disorientation played a key role. No mechanical failure has been found so far.

Also on board were a father and his three adult sons, compounding the heartbreak for multiple families.

The tight-knit Safford community mourns the Baldwins, remembering Torrie’s warmth and Landon’s deep passion for aviation. The FAA and NTSB are continuing their joint investigation.
