Air India Crash Survivor Speaks: “I Don’t Know How I’m Alive”
In a devastating tragedy, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, killing 241 people, including students in a nearby hostel. Yet one man, Vishwaskumar Ramesh, 38, miraculously survived.
Ramesh, seated in 11A, described the crash as surreal:
“I thought I would die. The side I sat on collapsed into the ground floor of the building. There was a gap where the door broke—I jumped.”
He recalls the plane stalling moments after takeoff, lights flickering, then a violent impact. “I felt the engine thrust. Seconds later, we hit the building,” he said.
While Ramesh managed to crawl out and run for safety, his brother, seated elsewhere, did not survive.
“I wasn’t worried about myself. I kept asking where my brother was,” he told his cousin.
Home Minister Amit Shah visited Ramesh at Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital. Dr. Dhaval Gameti reported the survivor was injured and disoriented, but stable.
Authorities have yet to confirm the crash’s cause, though investigations are underway.
“It’s a miracle,” Ramesh said, holding back tears.
“I don’t know how I came out of it alive.”
