5 places you’re forgetting to apply sunscreen (and need to, according to derms)

Full-Body Guide to Sunscreen: 5 Spots You’re Probably Missing

Even with rising sunscreen use, melanoma rates in the U.S. increased over 40% from 2009 to 2019, according to Cancers journal. Dermatologists say many people apply SPF incorrectly—missing critical areas and not reapplying often enough.

Dr. Brendan Camp recommends using at least SPF 30, reapplying every two hours, and covering all exposed skin.

Here are 5 often-missed spots:

1. Feet

Frequently forgotten due to shoes or sand. Choose a non-greasy, water-resistant SPF like Neutrogena Ultra Sheer ($9 on Amazon).

2. Ears

Third most common skin cancer site. Apply a mineral SPF stick like Cetaphil Sheer Mineral Stick SPF 50 for precision.

3. Lips

Switch to an SPF lip balm in warmer weather. Try Aquaphor Lip Repair with SPF 30 ($10 for 2-pack).

4. Eyelids

Use mineral SPF eye creams to avoid irritation. Supergoop’s Bright-Eyed SPF cream ($40) also brightens the skin.

5. Scalp

Use a sunscreen mist or powder for parts in the hair, or wear a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors.

Protecting your skin means every inch counts.
