Trump’s Health Tech Launch Overshadowed by “Sleepy” Moment at Press Conference
On July 30, former President Donald Trump unveiled a bold new initiative titled “Make Health Technology Great Again”, aimed at improving how Medicare patient data is shared between hospitals, doctors, and apps. Backed by over 60 healthcare and tech companies, the plan promised easier access to digital health records through platforms like Apple Health.
But the spotlight quickly shifted—not to policy, but to Trump himself.
While Dr. Mehmet Oz spoke at the White House press conference, viewers noticed Trump appearing unusually tired. His prolonged blinks and disengaged demeanor didn’t go unnoticed. Social media erupted, with users pointing out the irony of Trump—who famously dubbed Joe Biden “Sleepy Joe”—seeming drowsy himself.
One Redditor joked, “He falls asleep every time he’s not the one talking.” Another added, “He’s old and rage tweets all night—can we elect someone under 65 already?”
Meanwhile, experts raised red flags over the privacy implications of the initiative. Public health law professor Lawrence Gostin warned, “There are enormous ethical and legal concerns. Patients should be worried about how their records might be used.”
Though ambitious, the health tech rollout is now clouded by questions—both technical and personal.
