Melania Trump’s ‘First 200 Days’ Post Sparks Backlash and Praise
On August 7, the White House marked a milestone for First Lady Melania Trump—200 days back in her role. The post, shared on the official Office of the First Lady account, featured four photos of Melania at various events, including alongside President Trump.
Since resuming the role on January 20, Melania has appeared at the 250th Army anniversary parade, spoken at the International Women of Courage Awards, visited a children’s hospital, and championed the ‘Take it Down Act’—a law banning nonconsensual AI-generated explicit images. She’s also been spotted at the FIFA Club World Cup final, Les Misérables at the Kennedy Centre, and Pope Francis’ funeral.
However, critics pounced, noting reports that she’s spent less than 14 days at the White House in her husband’s second term. Comedian Laurie Kilmartin joked, “Is this all four days she’s been at the White House?” Others quipped that all her paid appearances fit into one post.
Supporters countered with praise, calling Melania “classy,” “elegant,” and a role model for young girls.
Melania has been open about not living in Washington full-time, splitting her time between D.C., New York, and Palm Beach. “My first priority is to be a mom, to be a First Lady, to be a Wife,” she told Fox Digital.
For some, her limited presence is a flaw. For others, it’s the mark of a First Lady on her own terms.
