Bronny James to make a big jump? The L.A Lakers are preparing something different for the next season

Bronny James Eyes NBA Breakthrough in Second Season

Bronny James entered the NBA spotlight like few second-round picks ever have. Selected 55th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2024, the son of LeBron James faced intense scrutiny alongside enormous fan interest.

As a rookie, Bronny logged just 181 minutes across 27 games, mainly during garbage time, while developing with the South Bay Lakers in the G League. Now, heading into his second season, optimism is growing that he could earn meaningful NBA minutes.

Summer League Growth Inspires Confidence

Bronny impressed during the 2025 Las Vegas Summer League. Lakers assistant Nate McMillan told The Sports Shop:
“His shot was never broken, but the confidence—you could see him knocking down those shots and attacking the basket.”

McMillan praised Bronny’s poise in sold-out arenas and credited his G League experience for preparing him for the pro game.

Fighting for Minutes

The Lakers’ crowded backcourt includes Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves, Marcus Smart, and others. Likely the sixth guard, Bronny could see spot minutes on defense or in case of injuries. Head coach JJ Redick added he could be a “great player” if he reaches “elite shape.”

With growth, skill, and poise, Bronny’s journey from second-round pick to rotation contributor may accelerate faster than expected.
