12-Year-Old Petersburg Boy Saves Family from House Fire

In Petersburg, Virginia, a seventh grader is being celebrated as a real-life hero after saving his family from a fast-moving house fire. Twelve-year-old Romir Parker didn’t hesitate when danger struck—his quick thinking spared four lives.

The fire broke out in early June during what seemed like an ordinary afternoon. Romir was upstairs when he heard a strange noise. Investigating, he was met with thick black smoke filling the house. Inside was his grandmother, struggling to escape. Without a second thought, Romir braved the smoke, reached her, and guided her outside to safety—just moments before firefighters arrived.

Though the blaze was contained within minutes, officials admitted the story could have ended in tragedy without Romir’s courage. “Even if our crew got there within four minutes, Romir saved his family’s lives,” said Fire Chief Wayne Hoover.

To honor his bravery, the city presented Romir with a proclamation and named him an honorary firefighter. Chief Hoover even promised him a future spot on the brigade once he turns 18.

A true hometown hero was born that day.
