A Son’s Heartbreak: When Love and Family Collide
I am Daniel, a third-year college student. Since my mother’s passing, my father had lived alone in the countryside. I believed he would never remarry—until one phone call shattered my world.
“Daniel, come home this weekend. I have something important to tell you,” Dad said in a low, steady voice.
When I arrived, he stood waiting with a woman beside him. My heart froze as my gaze fell on her rounded belly. It was Sophia—my high school classmate, the girl I had silently loved for years.
Tears blurred my eyes as I ran to the riverside, screaming into the wind. How could fate be so cruel? My father later found me, confessing, “I was unbearably lonely. Sophia came into my life by chance. She cares for me… and for you too.”
I broke, shouting, “She was my youth, my everything! Do you know what this does to me?”
That night, I found my late mother’s letter: “If one day your father remarries, please forgive him. Don’t let him grow old alone.”
On their wedding day, I couldn’t give my blessing. I left only a letter: “I can’t bless this, but I can’t hate you either. Be happy.”
