Anthony Edwards is known for bold statements, but his recent comments following the Timberwolves’ 113-105 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder were nothing short of glowing. Edwards lauded Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA), declaring him unguardable and a rightful MVP candidate.
“The MVP of the NBA… To me, he’s unguardable… you can go on and give it up. Just give him two points most of the time. I feel like he should have won it last year, but he’s playing out his mind right now,” Edwards told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
SGA backed Edwards’ words with a stellar 40-point performance, shooting 15-of-23 from the field, including a dominant 19-point third quarter that fueled OKC’s 12th straight win.
The Thunder, sitting atop the Western Conference at 27-5, owe much of their success to Gilgeous-Alexander’s brilliance. Averaging 33.3 points in December, he leads the MVP ladder, edging out Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
SGA’s response to Edwards’ praise reflected humility: “The best satisfaction is when your peers respect your craft. That’s a really good feeling.”
As the Thunder surge toward a historic season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s case for the MVP award strengthens with each remarkable game.
