Barack Obama Turns 64 — Fans Celebrate, Then Do a Double Take
Today, on August 4, fans across social media united to celebrate Barack Obama’s 64th birthday—and many were stunned by just how young he was when he first took office.
Obama, the 44th President of the United States, made history in 2008 by becoming the first African-American president, defeating Republican John McCain. He won reelection in 2012 against Mitt Romney, serving two full terms until 2017. At just 47 years old when inaugurated, many online couldn’t believe how young he looked—and still does.
“The last time he was president, he was only 55. Time flies,” one fan posted.
Another joked: “WTF – dude was president like 30 years ago.”
During his presidency, Obama championed major reforms like the Affordable Care Act, pushed for clean energy, and earned the Nobel Peace Prize for diplomatic efforts abroad.
Though he’s been out of office for nearly a decade, Obama remains politically engaged and is now also a best-selling author.
Fun fact: While Obama was relatively young when elected, Theodore Roosevelt (42) and JFK (43) were even younger. On the flip side, Donald Trump holds the record as both the oldest president at 78, and—ironically—the third oldest during his first term at 70.
