Ron Harper Calls LeBron’s 2020 Lakers Title a “Bubble Gum Ring”
The 2020 NBA championship may be in the history books, but its legitimacy remains under fire. On Monday, former Lakers guard and five-time NBA champion Ron Harper reignited the debate by dismissing LeBron James’ bubble title as nothing more than a joke.
“What 2020 title—the bubble gum ring?” Harper posted on X, mocking the Lakers’ run in the Orlando bubble. His comment came after Kentavious Caldwell-Pope suggested the Lakers should have kept their 2020 roster intact, a squad featuring LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Rajon Rondo, and Dwight Howard.
A Title Under Scrutiny
The Lakers dominated the 2019–20 season, finishing first in the West and defeating Portland, Houston, and Denver before beating the Miami Heat in six games. LeBron earned his fourth championship and fourth Finals MVP.
But because the season unfolded in a fan-less Disney World bubble, critics have long slapped an asterisk on the ring.
