Charles Barkley Criticizes Ja Morant’s Dunking, NBA Fans Disagree
The Memphis Grizzlies had a rough 2023 season, plagued by injuries and the absence of their star, Ja Morant. However, in the 2024-25 NBA season, Morant is back in action, displaying his trademark athleticism and aggressive playstyle. While fans love his high-flying dunks, former NBA star Charles Barkley believes his approach could be dangerous.
Barkley’s Warning to Morant
Speaking on NBA on TNT, Barkley expressed concern over Morant’s relentless dunking attempts:
“My only concern with him is he’s a little too reckless for me. He can’t be running into them big bodies like that because he gonna get hurt. … He gotta quit trying to dunk on people.”
Despite Barkley’s advice, Morant continues to dominate opponents with his aerial skills. He even went viral for an electrifying dunk attempt on Victor Wembanyama that didn’t count.
Fans Push Back Against Barkley’s Take
Barkley’s comments did not sit well with fans, who love Morant’s highlight-reel dunks. Many believe NBA on TNT analysts, including Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith, often make out-of-touch takes.
One fan on social media wrote:
“Real conversations need to be had about the TNT group. They are funny, but man, they never have a good take and clearly never watch the games.”
Despite the debate, Morant remains a key player for the Grizzlies, averaging 21.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists while shooting 45.0% from the field. His aggressive playstyle may be risky, but it’s also what makes him one of the league’s most exciting stars.
