Conjoined twins separated after 7-hour surgery – This is them today

Conjoined Twins Anna Grace and Hope Elizabeth Successfully Separated

Anna Grace and Hope Elizabeth Richards, conjoined twins born on December 29, 2016, have been successfully separated in a complex surgery at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. The twins shared a liver, diaphragm, and part of their heart, making the operation particularly challenging.

A Journey of Hope

After spending 18 months in the hospital, the sisters were finally able to return home. Their mother, Jill Richards, expressed her joy:

“We’ve prayed for this day for almost two years. It’s incredible to see them in two separate beds.”

The Complex Surgery

Before the main operation on January 13, 2018, the girls underwent a preparatory procedure in November 2017 to insert tissue expanders, helping stretch their skin. The separation required a team of 75 medical professionals across eight specialties, coordinated with careful planning and simulations, according to Dr. Larry Hollier.

Thriving After Surgery

Born via C-section at 35 weeks after prenatal ultrasounds revealed their condition, Anna and Hope are now thriving. The family expresses gratitude for the successful surgeries and the chance to enjoy normal life after a long, challenging hospital stay.
