Damian Lillard: “MJ’s Presence Hit Different”
Even among NBA legends, Michael Jordan commands a presence that’s impossible to ignore. During Episode 190 of the Knuckleheads Podcast (November 21, 2023), Damian Lillard shared a story highlighting why he believes Jordan remains untouchable.
At the NBA’s 75th Anniversary celebration, Lillard, already named one of the league’s all-time greats, stood alongside fellow icons for a group photo. Then Jordan appeared.
“We walk out of the room, we take the big picture, and when we get in the hallway, you see MJ walking towards us,” Lillard said.
“He wasn’t even in there for the big picture. There’s more cameras on just him than on all of us. That’s when you really saw the difference… ‘Man, this dude the GOAT.’”
Despite sharing the stage, Lillard admitted he never introduced himself.
“I still ain’t never met him,” he laughed.
“I was just staring… looking at his arms, his hands… Damn.”
Even as a Top 75 NBA player, Lillard acknowledged that Jordan’s aura separates him from everyone else. “That’s Jordan,” he concluded—a reminder that some legends are simply in a league of their own.
