Doctors Warn of Serious Ozempic Side Effects: Bone and Muscle Loss a Growing Concern
Medical experts are raising red flags over popular weight-loss drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro, warning of a potentially irreversible side effect—loss of bone and muscle mass.
These medications, originally designed to treat Type-2 diabetes, contain GLP-1 agonists, which suppress appetite. While celebrities and influencers have glamorized their rapid results, doctors now caution that misusing these drugs could lead to osteoporosis and muscle deterioration, especially in women and those approaching menopause.
“Rapid weight loss can negatively affect bone and muscle health,” said Julia Thomson from the Royal Osteoporosis Society. “A balanced approach, guided by a licensed professional, is crucial.”
Experts stress the importance of supervised prescriptions, nutritional support, and exercise to minimize long-term harm.
A case gaining attention involves singer Avery, who developed osteoporosis after just one year on Ozempic.
“Drugs that reduce bone density are dangerous, especially for the frail,” added Professor Carl Heneghan from Oxford University.
Doctors urge users to stay informed, avoid self-medicating, and focus on sustainable health habits to avoid lasting damage.
