Donald Trump Praises Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle Ad While Taking Aim at Taylor Swift
Donald Trump is backing Sydney Sweeney in the middle of her American Eagle controversy.
On August 4, the former president, 79, praised the actress’s “Great Jeans” campaign on Truth Social, calling it the “HOTTEST ad out there.” He added, “The jeans are flying off the shelves. Go get ’em, Sydney!”
Trump then shifted gears to take another swipe at Taylor Swift, who endorsed Kamala Harris during the last election. “Look at woke singer Taylor Swift,” Trump wrote. “Ever since I said I can’t stand her, she was booed out of the Super Bowl and became NO LONGER HOT. Being woke is for losers. Being Republican is what you want to be.”
In reality, Swift was not booed and has only continued to soar. Her song “How Did It End?” recently saw a 6,000% spike in sales after airing on HBO’s And Just Like That, and she ranked No. 9 on Forbes’ billionaire list earlier this year.
Meanwhile, American Eagle has defended Sweeney’s campaign, clarifying on Instagram: “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
Still, critics argue the ads—featuring Sweeney in suggestive poses with genetic wordplay—uncomfortably echo outdated and offensive ideas tied to eugenics.
