Former allies Donald Trump and Elon Musk are now at odds after the President dropped a subtle jab during a New York Post interview, saying: “Nothing catches me by surprise.”
Once collaborators, with Musk humorously heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), their relationship fractured when Musk slammed Trump’s newly passed “Big Beautiful Bill” as an “abomination.” Trump quickly fired back, claiming Musk was fully briefed and stood to benefit from the legislation.
Musk’s Deleted Post Fuels Tension
The tension deepened when Musk posted — and later deleted — an allegation linking Trump to Jeffrey Epstein’s files. In a follow-up interview, Trump confirmed their split: “I would assume so, yeah.”
“There Will Be Consequences”
Trump warned Musk against backing Democrats, hinting vaguely: “There will be consequences.” With Musk’s business tied to federal contracts, the message carried weight.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, “President Trump is focused on restoring national greatness,” despite Musk’s disapproval.
Their once-powerful alliance now seems irreparably fractured.
