Elon Musk Distances Himself from Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” Amid Budget Backlash
Tech billionaire and White House adviser Elon Musk is voicing strong opposition to President Donald Trump’s recently passed “Big, Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping budget plan that adds $3.8 trillion to the deficit.
Musk Slams the Spending Plan
In a CBS Sunday Morning interview airing June 1, Musk criticized the bill for undermining his work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE):
“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill… it increases the budget deficit and undermines the DOGE team’s work.”
Despite Musk’s efforts to trim federal waste, the bill includes major tax cuts and military spending funded by cuts to health and energy programs.
“A bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don’t know if it can be both,” Musk quipped.
Musk Steps Back from Politics
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO plans to reduce his White House involvement, citing frustration:
“DOGE is just becoming the whipping boy for everything… it’s an uphill battle.”
Musk now aims to refocus on his companies, admitting he “probably did spend a bit too much time on politics.”
With growing criticism from insiders and the public, the rift between Musk and Trump signals deeper tensions in the administration’s fiscal direction.
