Sniper Ambush Leaves Two Firefighters Dead in Coeur d’Alene Brush Fire Trap
A tragic and calculated attack claimed the lives of two firefighters on June 30 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after they responded to what authorities now believe was a deliberately set brush fire on Canfield Mountain.
According to chilling audio obtained by CNN, one firefighter cried out over the radio,
“Send law enforcement right now, there’s an active shooter zone… Everybody’s shot up here.”
Kootenai County Sheriff Robert Norris confirmed the fire had been set as bait. As firefighters arrived, they came under sniper fire, leaving two dead and a third critically injured.
A nearby body—believed to be the shooter—was later discovered by SWAT, along with a firearm. The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) condemned the act as “heinous,” and confirmed the fallen were IAFF members.
Former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis likened the scene to a battlefield, with first responders forced to take cover behind vehicles as they bled under fire.
Governor Brad Little called it a “heinous assault” and urged prayers for the victims’ families. The FBI and DHS are now leading the ongoing investigation.
Residents remain shaken, and the shelter-in-place order has been lifted, but Coeur d’Alene remains on edge—mourning heroes lost in an unimaginable ambush.
