Flight Attendant Reveals Why You Should Put a Bottle of Water Under Your Hotel Bed

A recent travel-safety tip from flight attendant Esther Sturrus has gone viral after she revealed a simple way to check under a hotel bed without getting on the floor. Instead of lifting sheets or crouching down, she recommends tossing a water bottle underneath. If it rolls out the opposite side, the space is clear; if not, it’s worth taking a closer look. Though rare, hidden intruders have made headlines before, and the hack offers quick peace of mind for solo travelers and frequent fliers.

The tip sparked mixed reactions online. Some viewers said the idea was extreme, while others appreciated the clever precaution. Sturrus clarified that a bottle getting stuck doesn’t automatically mean danger—bed frames or storage drawers can block its path. Still, she encourages travelers to remain aware of their surroundings, especially when staying in unfamiliar hotels or abroad.

Sturrus also shared additional travel tricks, like steaming clothes in the bathroom, using a hair dryer to clear foggy mirrors, amplifying phone audio with a glass, and using shower caps to protect shoes. Her popular TikTok channel regularly features smart packing, safety, and hotel-room shortcuts learned from years on the job.

Beyond her hacks, experts recommend basic precautions: limit cash on hand, avoid appearing lost, share travel plans with someone at home, and keep digital backups of essential documents. While most destinations are safe, a little preparation—like a quick bottle toss under the bed—can make any trip more secure and stress-free.
