Hurricane Milton Hits Florida, Leaving Destruction in Its Wake
Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida’s west coast last night, causing widespread devastation across the state. The storm, initially classified as a Category 5, was downgraded to Category 3 before hitting, with winds exceeding 100 mph. Despite the downgrade, Milton wreaked havoc, spawning multiple tornadoes and leaving entire communities in ruin.
As it struck Siesta Key at 8:30 PM, the storm bypassed a direct hit on Tampa Bay, although Mayor Jane Castor had urged residents to evacuate, warning of the potential for deadly conditions. By 5:00 AM, the hurricane had weakened to Category 1, with winds reaching 85 mph as it moved towards the Atlantic.
Streets were flooded, homes destroyed, and over three million residents were left without power. Tragically, multiple deaths were reported in St Lucie County, where tornadoes ravaged the area. President Joe Biden deployed federal aid, including Coast Guard personnel, to assist in the recovery efforts.
New images reveal the extent of the damage, with cars submerged and buildings severely impacted.
