Husband Of Slain Officer Struggles Raising Newborn Baby, Then Gets a 32-Pound Delivery

A community in California has stepped forward with remarkable compassion to support the infant daughter of fallen Palm Springs police officer Lesley Zerebny, who was tragically killed while responding to a domestic disturbance on October 8.

Zerebny, 27, had served with the Palm Springs Police Department for just 18 months and had recently returned from maternity leave. After her death, a group of Monterey-area mothers banded together, donating more than 500 ounces of breast milk to help feed her 4-month-old daughter, Cora.

The effort was organized by a woman identified as Ashley, who saw Zerebny’s story online and immediately asked if the family needed milk. “I just wanted to do a good thing in a bad situation,” she said. Within 24 hours, coolers full of milk were delivered and will be screened before being provided to the family.

The Palm Springs Police Officers Association shared that supporters can also send Enfamil formula. The suspected gunman, 26-year-old John Felix, was arrested after a shootout and is expected to face murder charges. Memorials for Officers Zerebny and Vega are set for October 18.
