JFK’s Grandson Blasts GOP Plan to Rename Kennedy Center After Melania Trump
In a fiery Instagram post, Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy, slammed a controversial proposal by House Republicans to rename the Kennedy Center Opera House in honor of Melania Trump.
The venue, built in 1971 to memorialize JFK, has been a cultural hub in Washington D.C. for over five decades. But on July 22, Republicans proposed renaming it the First Lady Melania Trump Opera House, citing her alleged “commitment to the arts and humanities.”
Schlossberg didn’t hold back. Quoting his grandfather, he wrote:
“A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces—but also by the men it honors.”
He reminded followers of JFK’s deep legacy in the arts—hosting Black artists at the White House, backing legends like James Baldwin, and showcasing icons like Pablo Casals and Yo-Yo Ma.
“Trump doesn’t support freedom of expression—he suppresses it,” Schlossberg added.
“This isn’t about honoring the arts—it’s about rewriting history.”
Social media erupted. Some praised the First Lady, calling her “brilliant,” while critics called the move “tone-deaf” and a distraction from real issues.
As the debate rages, Schlossberg’s message is clear:
“Art endures. And no one can erase what JFK stood for.”
