John Foster Honors Late Best Friend With Tearful Original Song On “American Idol”

John Foster’s “Tell That Angel I Love Her” Is a Tribute to Two Lost Friends

American Idol contestant and Louisiana native, John Foster, captured hearts with an emotional original song, “Tell That Angel I Love Her.” A biology student at LSU with dreams of becoming a “singing oncologist,” John is driven by a passion to help those battling cancer.

During his first audition, his rendition of a Conway Twitty classic won over the judges—especially Luke Bryan, who reversed his initial “no” after seeing John’s charm and heartfelt purpose.

But it was his top 20 performance of “Tell That Angel I Love Her” that moved audiences to tears. The song was dedicated to Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill, two friends he lost in a tragic New Year’s Eve accident.

“Each tear that falls on my guitar is a hug from afar… Lord, won’t you tell that angel I love her?” – John Foster

Pointing to their grieving parents in the crowd, John emotionally shared,

“I love you, Maggie.”

His moving tribute resonated deeply with viewers and judges alike.
