Josh Hutcherson says he’d play a Spider-Verse variant: “I’d definitely be open to it”

Josh Hutcherson, known for his role in “The Hunger Games” franchise, recently revealed his interest in joining Sony’s Spider-Verse as one of the Spider-Variants. Hutcherson, who auditioned for the lead role in 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man,” ultimately lost the part to Andrew Garfield.

Reflecting on his audition experience, Hutcherson expressed curiosity about what led to the casting decision. Despite missing out on playing Spider-Man, he acknowledges that landing the role of Peeta Mellark in “The Hunger Games” shortly after worked out in his favor.

While Hutcherson’s Spider-Man audition tape resurfaced last year, reigniting discussions about his potential as the web-slinger, he now sees an opportunity to contribute to the Spider-Verse in a different capacity. Hutcherson, a lifelong Spider-Man fan, expressed openness to playing a variant character, stating, “I’d definitely be open to it and wouldn’t mind slinging some webs around.”

During the casting process for the Spider-Man reboot, Hutcherson was among the actors considered for the role, alongside Alden Ehrenreich and Jamie Bell. However, Garfield secured the role, leading to Hutcherson exploring other projects, including his recent role in the hit video game adaptation “Five Nights at Freddy’s” and his latest film, “The Beekeeper,” an action thriller directed by David Ayer.

As Hutcherson continues to explore diverse roles, fans eagerly await any potential involvement in Sony’s Spider-Verse, where he could bring his passion for the iconic superhero to life in a new and exciting way.
