Could LeBron James Return to Cleveland? Fans Speculate
LeBron James may have fans buzzing with trade rumors after a seven-word social media post. On Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert renewed contracts for three key executives: GM Mike Gansey, President of Basketball Ops Koby Altman, and Assistant GM Brandon Weems.
LeBron responded on X (formerly Twitter) with:
“YESSIR!!! Congratulations to my brother B. Weems!! Super proud of you man.”
The post isn’t just friendly banter. LeBron and Weems are childhood friends from Akron, Ohio, who played together at St. Vincent–St. Mary High School. Their lifelong connection sparked immediate speculation that LeBron could return to Cleveland for a third stint.
LeBron has already played two stints with the Cavs: 2003–2010 and 2014–2018, winning the 2016 NBA title. This offseason, he opted into his $52.6 million player option with the Lakers, but agent Rich Paul says they’re still “looking for the best” situation.
Fans are watching every move closely. One tweet read: “LeBron’s going home again… book it.” With LeBron, even a single post can ignite an entire debate.
Being able to adapt is one of @kingjames’ greatest traits and @stevenash saw it on full display this year.
