Vernon Maxwell Backs Rockets’ Amen Thompson Amid NBA Suspension Disparities
The recent altercation between the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat has sparked controversy, with suspensions and fines handed down unevenly. Amen Thompson received a two-game suspension, while Tyler Herro, who also initiated contact, escaped with a $25,000 fine but no suspension. Jalen Green and coach Ime Udoka were fined $35,000 and $5,000, respectively. Former Rockets player Vernon Maxwell has criticized the NBA’s handling of the situation, accusing the league of favoritism.
Maxwell, vocal on social media, referred to Herro as “MGK” for his resemblance to Machine Gun Kelly, and tweeted:
“2 game suspension for Amen. 25K fine and no suspension for the instigator MGK [Tyler Herro]. The league has never liked Houston and they must have a thing for skinny white kids that can’t rap.”
Maxwell later praised Thompson for defending his team and offered to pay his fine, along with those of other Rockets players involved:
“I love me some Amen Thompson. Put his fine on my tab, Rockets.”
Whether Maxwell’s gesture becomes reality or not, the incident highlights concerns about fairness in the NBA’s disciplinary actions.
