Texas Flood Tragedy: 23 Girls Still Missing After Guadalupe River Overflows at Camp Mystic
Heartbreaking new updates have emerged from Central Texas following the devastating July 4 flash floods that claimed dozens of lives and left entire communities in ruins. At the center of the tragedy is Camp Mystic, a Christian girls-only summer camp in Kerr County, where 23 young girls remain missing after the Guadalupe River surged to catastrophic levels.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick confirmed the number during a somber press conference, adding that approximately 750 girls were attending the camp when the floodwaters rose with terrifying speed. Many of the camp’s cabins were either submerged or swept away as emergency crews scrambled to evacuate campers.
Families of the missing have been speaking with local news outlets, sharing their anguish and holding onto hope. “We just want them back,” one parent told reporters through tears.
According to ABC Eyewitness News, the river hit its second-highest level ever recorded. CNN reports that 25 deaths have now been confirmed across the region, including 24 in Kerr County and one in Kendall County.
With search efforts continuing, the community is united in grief, prayer, and urgent calls for stronger flood preparedness at youth facilities in high-risk zones. The wait for answers continues — but so does the fight to bring every missing girl home.
