Michelle Obama Mourns the Loss of Her Mother, Marian Robinson
The Obama family is in mourning following the peaceful passing of Marian Robinson, Michelle Obama’s beloved mother, at the age of 86. Known for bringing stability and warmth to the White House, Robinson was a constant presence in her granddaughters Sasha and Malia’s lives during Barack Obama’s presidency.
In a heartfelt tribute on X, Michelle Obama wrote:
“My mother was my rock—steady, loving, and always there. Our family is heartbroken.”
Barack Obama added,
“There was and will be only one Marian Robinson. Her life was a gift to all of us.”
Born Marian Lois Shields in 1937 on Chicago’s South Side, she raised her children, Michelle and Craig, with strong values and fierce devotion. She lost her husband, Fraser Robinson, in 1991.
The Biden family also paid tribute, remembering her as a “loving mother and grandmother who gave love without condition.”
Michelle reflected:
“When your parents go, you’re next up.”
Now, as matriarch, she honors her mother’s legacy with grace and gratitude.
