Italian Boy Rescued After Drifting Two Miles Out to Sea on Lilo
A five-year-old boy was swept two miles out to sea off the coast of Naples while floating on his lilo, sparking a terrifying rescue. Rough waters and strong currents made the situation dangerous, especially as the boy’s grandmother was also pulled away while diving in to save him.
Thankfully, the child clung tightly to the inflatable mattress until a brave Italian coastguard swam out and brought him safely back to shore. The coastguard also rescued the grandmother, who was found two miles from Castellammare di Stabia, according to officials.
The boy’s father, Gioacchino D’angelo, expressed his gratitude: “Hats off to you, thank you so much for saving my son and my mum.”
The Italian Coastguard issued a stern warning about the risks of using inflatable devices in strong winds, urging the public to avoid such flotation aids in hazardous conditions.
Both the boy and grandmother received medical care onshore, but thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.
