Tragedy Strikes: Two Israeli Embassy Staffers Killed in D.C. Shooting
On May 21, 2025, two Israeli Embassy staffers were fatally shot outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. The suspect, Elias Rodriguez, 30, of Chicago, was detained shortly after the attack.
Posing as a Victim
Rodriguez allegedly opened fire on a group of four people after an event hosted by the American Jewish Committee. He later blended in with bystanders, accepting help from attendees before being subdued. “I did it for Gaza. Free Palestine,” he reportedly shouted.
Eyewitness Shock
Event organizer Jojo Kalin recalled giving the man water, unaware he was the shooter. “He appeared distraught… then pulled out a keffiyeh and yelled, ‘Free Palestine.’”

Leaders React
Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the act as “hatred and antisemitism,” while the embassy reaffirmed faith in U.S. law enforcement.
