Teen’s Rare Jaw Condition Sparks Awareness After Viral Surgery Reveal
Jacquelyn Denney was a healthy teen with a radiant smile—until her teeth stopped touching. What began as a strange tingling sensation after her braces were removed soon spiraled into a painful mystery. Over time, her jaw visibly shifted, her bite opened further, and her face began to change.
“No one had answers,” Denney shared on TikTok, reflecting on years of uncertainty. Multiple doctors offered conflicting diagnoses—TMJ, arthritis, tongue thrust syndrome—but none explained the root cause.
By 2020, Denney was diagnosed with idiopathic condylar resorption, a rare condition where the jaw joints deteriorate without clear cause. She struggled with basic functions like eating and smiling. Her front teeth no longer met, forcing her to chew with molars and adapt daily.
Despite an initial insurance denial, Denney underwent life-changing surgery in December 2020, including total joint replacement and jaw realignment.
“My face might be numb, but everything feels so right,” she posted afterward.
Her before-and-after photos went viral, turning her personal struggle into a beacon of hope. Her journey now raises awareness about a little-known condition—and the power of self-advocacy.
“It started with a smile. It ended with a movement.”
