Trump Claims He Excluded London Mayor from Windsor Castle Banquet
During his recent UK state visit, former President Donald Trump revealed there was one guest he “didn’t want” at the state banquet at Windsor Castle: London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump described Khan as “one of the worst mayors in the world” and said, “I asked that he not be there. He wanted to be there, as I understand, I didn’t want him.” The BBC, however, noted that Khan neither sought nor expected an invitation.
Trump criticized Khan’s handling of immigration and rising crime in London, calling him a “disaster.” A spokesperson for Khan pushed back, saying, “Trump’s politics is one of fear and division… London is open, dynamic, and safer than major US cities.”
The feud between Trump and Khan dates back to 2015, beginning with Trump’s proposed Muslim travel ban. It escalated after the 2017 London Bridge attack, with Trump later insulting Khan’s intelligence. Khan responded by approving the 2019 “Trump baby” blimp during Trump’s first UK visit.
Despite efforts to foster US-UK relations, tensions remained high, with protests outside Windsor Castle and arrests over projected images of Trump and Jeffrey Epstein.
