Why Your Laundry Smells Musty — And the Easy Fix You’ve Been Ignoring
If your freshly washed clothes still carry a musty odor, your washing machine might not be the culprit — the real problem could be your detergent drawer. Over time, soap residue, dirt, and mold can build up inside this small compartment, reducing your washer’s efficiency and leaving your clothes less than fresh.
1. Remove and Clean the Drawer
Press the release tab to pull the drawer out completely. Scrub each section using warm water and a mild cleaner, then use an old toothbrush for those hidden corners. Let it dry fully — moisture left behind is a common cause of mildew.
2. Wipe the Slot Inside
Use a damp cloth or cotton swab to clean the area where the drawer slides in. This prevents old detergent from dripping onto your laundry.
3. Use the Right Sections
-
“I” = pre-wash
-
“II” = main wash
-
Flower symbol = fabric softener
4. Don’t Overfill
Too much detergent leads to residue, streaks, and odor.
5. Keep It Routine
Clean the drawer every few weeks to keep clothes smelling fresh and your washer mold-free.
