Trump’s $175B “Golden Dome” Missile Shield Sparks Global Reactions

President Donald Trump’s unveiling of the “Golden Dome” missile defense system has triggered international concerns, especially from China, as the $175 billion initiative aims to revolutionize U.S. defense through space-based technology.

Introduced during a March 2025 address to Congress, Trump compared the system to Israel’s Iron Dome, promising a multi-layered shield integrating land, sea, and space assets. “Now we have the technology,” he stated, linking it to Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative.

Foreign response has been swift. China condemned the plan as “provocative,” warning it violates the 1967 Outer Space Treaty. Trump, however, insists it’s essential given growing threats from adversaries like Russia, North Korea, and Iran.

Companies like SpaceX, Palantir, and Anduril are early frontrunners for the satellite surveillance portion of the system, which may include up to 1,000 satellites.

General Gregory Guillot emphasized that this next-gen system would defend the U.S. at every missile stage. However, funding is still pending, and concerns about space militarization and global instability remain unresolved.

“This is a Manhattan Project-scale mission,” said Lockheed Martin.
