Why Gospel Singer Osinachi’s Husband Was Sentenced to Death by Hanging — Full Details

Gospel Star Osinachi Nwachukwu’s Tragic End: A Call for Justice

Osinachi Nwachukwu, a celebrated Nigerian gospel singer known for the hit song “Ekwueme,” died under disturbing circumstances in April 2022. While initial reports cited illness, her family revealed a pattern of domestic abuse by her husband, Peter Nwachukwu—who was later sentenced to death in 2025.

“She felt that God is against divorce,” said her sister, Favour Made, highlighting Osinachi’s refusal to leave her abusive marriage.

Peter, who managed Osinachi’s career and finances, allegedly abused her for years, as confirmed by their children and industry peers. Music producer Sunny Pee once warned him, “You’re going to kill this woman.”

Despite efforts from friends and family urging separation, Osinachi remained hopeful for change. Her church, Dunamis International Gospel Centre, later condemned domestic violence, stating, “It is better to be alive without a marriage than to die in one.”

Although Peter denied wrongdoing, a Nigerian court found him guilty of culpable homicide. Legal experts now debate the death sentence’s impact on the couple’s children—who’ve already lost so much.
