“I Don’t Resist Life Anymore”: Brianna Lafferty’s Near-Death Awakening
At just 25, Brianna Lafferty’s battle with myoclonus dystonia, a rare neurological disorder, pushed her body to the brink. Years of chronic pain, sleeplessness, and infections led to an eight-minute clinical death in a Texas hospital.
“I was no longer in my body,” Lafferty recalled, describing a realm where time collapsed and pain vanished.
During that moment, she encountered unfamiliar beings, shifting landscapes, and a sense of cosmic connection. Upon returning, Lafferty faced sensory overload and could feel others’ physical and emotional pain—a change that lasted for years.
Her path led to a spiritual awakening. She trained as a death doula and now helps others facing grief, illness, or transformation. A life-changing deep brain stimulation surgery in 2022 improved her physical symptoms, offering newfound stability.
“Death is an illusion,” she now believes. “Even the hard parts have meaning.”
Today, Lafferty lives with purpose, helping others embrace life’s most painful transitions with courage, empathy, and a deeply awakened heart.
