Toilet Snake Bites: Rare Incidents That Still Shock the World

Snake bites from toilets may sound like urban legends, but real cases from around the globe prove they do happen — especially in tropical regions where snakes seek shelter near water sources.

One of the most startling incidents occurred in Thailand, where a man was bitten on the testicles by a massive 12-foot python hiding inside his toilet bowl. In South Africa, a Dutch traveler suffered severe injuries after a Cape cobra struck while he used an outdoor restroom. Similar cases have appeared in the U.S., including a Texas woman bitten by a harmless rat snake, and in Australia, where a carpet python latched onto a woman’s thigh.

Although all victims survived, several required medical treatment, surgeries, and even therapy to cope with the trauma.

Experts warn that snakes can enter bathrooms by slipping through sewer lines, cracked pipes, and drain openings — especially during rainy seasons. As one wildlife specialist explained, “Snakes can move through plumbing systems and appear suddenly in toilets.”
